EcoLogic Solutions

Background

EcoLogic Solutions makes earth-friendly cleaning products for institutional market. The company's founders are hardcore treehuggers, and actually gathered many of the building materials themselves from curbs and dumpsters around brooklyn before deciding to involve a design firm to organize the renovation.

Strategy

I challenged the team to use every single salvaged item the company had gathered, and to translate those varied elements into a cohesive environment. Permeable room divisions and industrial materials were chosen to honor the enormous uninterrupted spaces of the foundries and shipbuilding facilities of the Navy Yard.

The Story

Early on, we faced a choice as to whether to add an additional door for shipping and receiving. In the end we decided to observe the industrial history of the Navy Yard and feature the production aspect of the facility instead of hiding it away. Freight drivers and potential investors both enter at the same location. This approach ended up running through every other decision we made.

Office Quest

Once the office opened, it became a stop on a tour hosted by the Navy Yard development corporation. The founders would walk visitors through the facilities, proudly pointing out all the transformed elements they had personally salvaged. I created a digital scavenger hunt using RFID beacons hidden in planters, and mobile devices. This way the tour could happen even when the executives weren’t available to host.

Further Work

At some point, the client learned I had been a graphic designer and web developer in a previous life. I ended up redesigning their site, their marketing materials, and even their product labels.
